McCandless Township, Allegheny County
Earth, Inc. has been the Geotechnical Engineer of Record for the McCandless Crossing development which covers roughly 130 acres of prime commercial property in the North Hills suburb of Pittsburgh. When completed, approximately 1,000,000 square feet of mixed use development including retail, office space, hotels, entertainment, and residential units with a "town center" will be in place along McKnight Road, the busiest corridor in the North Hills suburbs.
Paramount to the success of the project was the judicious use of excavated materials including rock to construct the necessary benches and buttresses to provide for embankment and cut slope stability. In, addition, existing piles of non-engineered fill were reworked to provide quality embankment as part of earthwork construction for the various components of development.
